Giving Back to Our Communities
/in Community ServiceWe have a tradition in our firm of emphasizing community service. Our employees and our firm have made a commitment to help support those who need assistance. Each year during the holidays, our firm makes a monetary donation to a charity in each city where we have an office. Our employees supplement that donation with their own monetary or food donations. We remain committed to support the communities throughout the state of Florida where we practice. We thank our employees and our clients for putting us in a position to help whenever we can.

NICU AngelEye Live-Streaming – Lights, Camera, Baby!
Giving birth is one of life’s most extraordinary experiences, but for parents who need to leave their babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, it can be very stressful and leave emotions in a disarray.
Funding from the 2021 Holiday Fashion Show will help provide new video streaming technology called AngelEye. This state-of-the-art communications system allows parents to monitor their baby through an app on their phone, giving them peace of mind when they cannot be at the hospital. High resolution wireless cameras—complete with night vision—transmit live video of the baby securely to the parents’ personal device of choice and can be accessed by family and friends with permission anywhere in the world that has internet access.
This real-time interaction updates parents, shares vital information and creates memorable moments with their baby. The nurse maintains primary control and can manage the streaming when providing care or treatment. This device also allows private communication between the nurse and the mother to send updates on such things as weight gain and breastmilk volume. These benefits help by reducing separation anxiety, encouraging bonding, assisting in breast milk production, increasing family engagement and providing a sense of control to the mothers who often feel a great loss of control when they have an infant in the NICU.
La Cava Jacobson & Goodis sponsors The Givens Back Foundation’s Annual Blitzball Tournament
/in Community ServiceLa Cava Jacobson & Goodis was proud to sponsor The Givens Back Foundation’s Annual Blitzball Tournament on January 3, 2021 to benefit Inner City Baseball, a Tampa baseball organization run by Mychal Givens, a Tampa native and current pitcher for the MLB Colorado Rockies. Inner City Baseball provides access to sports and the teaching of charitable giving and life lessons for all children, including those who would not otherwise have access to organized sports. Benjamin Mallin, who is the son of our own Attorney Karen Mallin, is a player on the 12 year old Inner City Baseball team. In his own words, Benjamin explains: “The Inner City Baseball teams are made up of players like me who are very fortunate and also players who are less fortunate from all over Tampa. All of us come together for baseball practice and tournaments, and we also do charitable things together during the year, like giving away turkeys at Thanksgiving and giving presents to children at Christmas. My mom and dad like me playing Inner City Baseball because I have fun while I learn and give, and I really love it too. I think all kids should be able to play baseball like I do because it’s challenging and fun. It’s expensive to buy uniforms and equipment, and it is expensive to go to tournaments. Helping Inner City Baseball helps a less fortunate kid get to love baseball like I do.”

April and Lou La Cava Co-Chairpersons For St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation Heroes Ball
/in Community ServiceApril and Lou La Cava were honored to be co-chairpersons of the 2019 St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation Heroes Ball, Journey to Candy Land. This year’s Heroes Ball raised more than $500,000 toward the purchase of virtual reality technology for the St. Joseph’s Children’s Heart Institute that will give cardiac surgeons the ability to plan and prepare for complex heart surgeries in a way never before imagined. This technology can help save the lives of many children who need complex heart surgery. The Ball also honored community hero Dr. Kiran Patel. Dr Patel has become one of Tampa’s most prolific philanthropists. The impact of his generosity has positively impacted our community, the nation and the world. La Cava & Jacobson was proud to be a major sponsor of this fabulous event. Lou and April would like to personally thank all of the other sponsors and everyone who attended the Heroes Ball for their generosity in making this event such a fabulous success.
